I have recently uncovered another Facebook app called “My Status” that is sending tons of annoying notifications to user’s friends. Facebook allows apps to use the same name as other apps and these losers have chosen the same name as my app. I want to make sure everyone knows to be careful not to confuse the two applications. The REAL My Status app is at http://apps.facebook.com/my-status. Notice the “dash” in the URL. The offending app doesn’t have the dash.
I’m now toying with the idea of branding my apps with “XS”, like “XS My Status”. I hate to have to do that, but I do need some way to distinguish the apps so that users can trust them. Or I could just wait until enough people report the rogue app and it gets shut down. What do you all think I should do?
